How to Improve the Circulation of Air in Your Home

A good circulation of air in your home will help keep germs, dust, and other allergens out because new air is always coming in while older air is going out. Without proper air circulation, all the dirt, dust, and allergens that enter your home on a daily basis will be stuck there. Don’t allow this to happen.

Start making positive changes to improve home ventilation today and keep you, your family, and your entire home healthier. What are some of the changes you can make right now? There are several fairly easy improvements you can make to your home to start increasing the airflow.

Use Your Fans

If your home doesn’t have ceiling fans, then it’s time to consider installing them. You can also purchase floor fans and plug one into the wall in each room. Another type of fan you want to have is an exhaust fan.

Be sure to have an exhaust fan in each bathroom, in your kitchen, and even your laundry room if possible. Exhaust fans work by extracting hot, humid air from a small area. Fresh air can then enter through vents or doors to replace the air that’s been lost.

It’s also a good idea to replace your air filters on a regular basis and consider installing floor ventilation openings if you don’t already have them. Floor ventilation openings help regulate airflow and allow you to decide how much air enters a room. There are even designer floor registers to cover the openings to give them a more aesthetic appeal.

Combine all of these together and your home’s air circulation will significantly increase.

Bring in House Plants

Did you know there are several types of house plants that actually help improve the quality of air in your home? That’s right! They might not help circulate the air, but they will help purify it, which is just as beneficial.

There are many great options to choose from, including Aloe Vera, which is a great plant for those who don’t have a green thumb. They’re very low maintenance and will thrive even if you forget to water them for several days.

Open Doors and Windows

One simple way to release the stale air inside of your home and allow fresh air to enter is to open all doors and windows. Of course, you’ll want to make sure the weather conditions outside are ideal for doing so. Make sure to open all interior doors as well so the air can flow throughout the entire house with ease.

Consider Furniture Placement

One last thing to consider is your furniture placement. Consider where your furniture is located and if certain pieces could be affecting the airflow in your home. Make sure to move large furniture items away from windows and out of walkways.

There should be a clear pathway from all rooms to one another, which will help open up your home and increase air circulation.
