Three home renovation trends you should know about: Keren Himmel

More than 70 percent of homeowners have decided to spend their time and energy on home improvement projects this year. That’s no surprise. The COVID-19 pandemic stopped us all in our tracks and forced us to spend more time at home than we ever expected.

Our homes have become our offices, our gyms, our sanctuaries.

As co-owner of H&H Revived — a full-service, interior design firm with clients nationwide — I’ve seen firsthand the uptick in home improvements, from cosmetic upgrades and backyard spruce-ups to workplace revamps and custom builds.

With the number of home improvement projects continuing to rise, project inspiration has been in high demand. It’s our job to stay ahead of all the design trends. That’s why my co-founder, Jaclyn Heller (the other “H” in H&H Revived) and I just attended Market, a 5-million-square-foot showcase for home and hospitality contract furnishings in Las Vegas.

Looking for pro tips? Here are three style trends we learned at Market that will give your home that designer’s touch, and take it from a space you live in to a space you love.

Comfort is key: With people spending more quality time at home, the formal living room is making way for more comfortable, usable and functional spaces. Adding a game table and a few seating areas for reading and relaxing will allow the family to still be together in the same room, no matter what activities they’re pursuing. Pro tip: If you’re lusting over a designer or statement piece, designers like us can order for you at a fraction of the original cost.

Wallpaper is in: Wallpaper has made a full comeback and there are endless, beautiful options for everyone. You can use it to create a statement wall (hello, florals), make a colorful backing for cabinets or even use it on a ceiling to add dimension. If you’re scared of committing, you can use peel-and-stick wallpaper. Put something up and you can swap it out anytime.

Bold colors mixed with neutrals: Green is IN, and especially paired with pattern play. We saw beautiful, lush, emerald green upholstery mixed with golds and neutrals. Neutral rattans and wickers are also big in 2021 and allow for a more comfortable, relaxed feel. Neutrals always help to keep things classic and not trendy. Don’t be afraid to use loud colors! Play around with pillows, throws, rugs and artwork.
